These are just a few things your contributions have done to help families of children with Cancer.

  • A 2 year old boy has been diagnosed with Neuroblastom with Opsolclonus Myoclonus Syndrome which will have a significant impact on functioning(speech, behaviors, etc.). Mom works part-time and dad has been unemployed providing the childcare at home. Mom has been coming to appointments and therefore missing work days. They re behind a few months on the car payment and are terrified of the car being repossessed while needing to get to treatments.

 

  • An 11 years old and has relapsed with ALL. She comes from an intact 2 parent family and has a twin brother. The family was reluctant to use assistance during their first battle. Now that she has relapsed and will require a bone marrow transplant and the family will need to take more time for work. Assistance will begin with a mortgage payment.

 

  • A Down Syndrome child and has been diagnosed with a malignant neoplasm of soft tissue on a lower limb. The family is experiencing financial hardship due to the mother remaining home to provide care.

 

  • A 6 year old boy who is a twin who was diagnosed at 9 months old and has been in treatment since. Mom is in medical school so they recently moved here from Nevada for mom to begin residency at Oishei. Dad will be looking for a new job now that they are here as well. They have numerous co-pays for bills from Nevada and due to moving costs and lost wages, assistance is needed.

 

  • A 15 year old boy was diagnosed with ALL in July. His mom is a single parent and has had to take quite a bit of time off work to take care of her son. Help with household expenses was needed including rent, utility bills and a car payment.

 

  • A 9 year old and was diagnosed with T-Lymphoblastic Lymphoma in June 2022. He also experienced significant complications at the beginning of 2023 requiring a 3+ month stay in the ICU/Hospital. The family is struggling with household expenses.

 

  • A 5 year old girl with a brain tumor. She and her mom just recently moved to Buffalo from Florida to seek further treatment for her brain tumor, and to be closer to her family. Mom has not started work yet and has not received any government assistance yet so she is currently struggling financially due to needing to care for her daughter 24/7. Assistance with household expense was needed starting with rent. The little girl passed away on and assistance with funeral expenses was needed.

 

  • A 8 year old girl had been diagnosed with a Ewing’s Sarcoma. Her family runs a small family-owned business which has also struggled due to the pandemic. They may need to travel for care unavailable locally, and will need to close the business during that time. She passed away on and we assisted with the funeral expenses.

 

  • A 2 1/2 year old boy has been diagnosed with a Rhabdomyosarcoma His mom had to quit her job and the dad does not have a high paying job because of his own health problems. Help was needed with household bills, starting with National Fuel and National Grid.

 

  • A mortgage payment for a widowed mother whose daughter was in the final days of her fight with brain cancer.

 

  • A 16 year old girl with AL Leukemia. Mom has had to stop working to help care for her. 1 1/2 hour trips to and from the hospital are expensive along with parking. All this has caused a financial strain. Help with gas and parking is needed. Also for reimbursement of hotel costs. Unfortunately help with funeral expenses was needed.
